Wrap 'Em Up!

The last week has reminded me I need to figure out how I am going to carry around this new child of mine. You see, I’ve got this trick shoulder and need something that will help me carry my little monkey as much as possible. I’m not so keen on having too many baby accessories, but finding a quality wrap/carrier that works for my bum shoulder is one of the best investments I can make. So I’m on the ultimate wrap hunt. Help me if you like. I’m looking for a wrap that distributes weight equally across both shoulders and my back and can be adjusted so that when I do feel something slip, I can re-wrap it to accommodate the area I am trying to avoid weight being on.

Any suggestions? I figured so many of you were such great help with the cloth diaper decision-making process that I thought I would challenge ya’ll to the ultimate wrap hunt. I’m currently investigating the following products and wonder what your experiences may be:

Hotslings
Baby Ktan Baby Carrier
Ultimate Baby Wrap  ** This is the one I am leaning toward.  Note:  This is NOT Donovan or our baby in the picture.

My friend swears by the Moby Sling. I tried a bunch of them with my boys and never found the "perfect" one :( If our baby is small enough this time I will try the Moby, otherwise I did like the Bjorn (sp?) style front pack. Good luck, let us know what you pick.

I had a hotslings with our first and LOVED it. I carried David in it until he was 2 (on my hip). I had a summer (UV protectant) and winter fleece sling. Our daughter, Ellie, loves her thumb and sleeping on her belly so she did not love the hotsling. I got a Mei Tai for her and I really like it. It was a life saver with her. You can carry them in several different positions. "Mei Tai" is the brand name, but you can get cheaper versions of it as well. Just google mei tai and see what other stores carry similar versions. The fun color schemes were just an added bonus!

I LOVED my hotsling. I carried my daughter in it forever and it was wonderful. I could wear it on my side or it in the front. It was more comfy than my baby bjorn and it was so easy to slip on and off or fold up and put in the diaper bag. Some baby stores have free sling classes if you don't attend then you can watch the dvd that comes with the sling. Just my 2 cents :)

We really are big fans of the Ergo carrier (love the back and hip functionality) but guessing that might not be the best for your shoulder?

Moby was the best on my joints. It is a bit cumbersome when getting used to it, but the idea has been around for ages. I highly recommend it!

I loved my Moby and my Hotsling. If you don't want to invest, I have a funky Hotsling that you are welcome to use for as long as you want! Let me know if you want it.

I just wanted to say a quick "hi" and let you know I've been reading up on your blog. I just wanted to comment on this wrap quick, because I have it. I used it for my son a FEW times when he was younger. Here are the pros and cons:
Pros - it's very soft, and secure (once you get your baby in it)
- it's light
- it's washable
Cons - it's ANNOYING to put on
- it is hard to get your child out of
- the material does not stay flat on your skin; it twists and pulls forward (or back, if you're wearing it that way)...and that hurts.

i dont know if that helps, but i wanted to tell you about it. i think for our adopted baby, i'll try the ergo. i've heard really good things. it's all about TRYING the product and seeing what YOU like best. My sister uses a sling she made, similar to the Moby sling, but I don't care for it. good luck!

oh man, i forgot to tell you, that my boy has ALWAYS been in the 90-100% for weight and height, and the more the child weighs, the more the sling sags...unless you wrap it REALLY tight, and well, that tended to cut off my circulation.

WOW! You guys are the best...clearly I have a lot to digest! Thanks for the info--keep it coming!

I have the Ergo too. Tough to use with a tiny baby, but great later. Stella was a little annoyed that she was on my back and couldn't see over my shoulder. She likes the Kelty framed backpack now. But it is BY FAR the most comfortable carrier out there..and as you can see, I've tried most of them. We did a lot of walking!

i have a moby that my yoga teacher used to teach yoga with her baby in it at the time. i could never keep it tight enough to keep the baby secure but i know other people do it and it works great.
i ended up using the baby bjorn to death b/c it was so easy to put on and kept baby secure without much effort- but it doesn't look nearly as cool as some of the others!

Hello there! Haha yes every thing baby obsessive right :) Just want to make sure all the i's are dotted and t's crossed ;)

We got an Ergo carrier, Mei Tei, and are thinking of maybe getting a Moby carrier. I think we are going to LOVE the Ergo---you can carry them on your hip, front, or back up to like age 3 or 4 I believe!!
